October 2017 was a memorable month for every Indian because India hosted 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup in this month.
World Cup Football was an act for pride for us. Delhi, Goa, Guwahati, Kochi, Kolkata and New Mumbai are the host cities. Total of 24 teams qualified for the tournament. As a host country, India got chance to play their first ever FIFA World Cup. Final match was held at Salt Lake Stadium where England became U-17 2017 Champion defeating Spain by 5--2. Rhian Brewstar won Golden Boot Award for Scoring highest goal (8) in the tournament. Phil Foden (Eng) was awarded with Golden ball for Best Player. Gabriel Brazao won Golden Gloves. Though India lost all three matches at group stage, Indian U-17 team won million hearts with their impressive performances against heavyweights Ghana, USA, Colombia.
The tournament is regarded as a success by every one. It was most attended and highest scoring Edition in U-17 World Cup History. Among six host cities, people of Kolkata and Bengal responded so heavily that we can appropriately call it "Mecca of Football".
